The Summer Of Colin (So Far)
Posted May 13th, 2008 by ColinAlthough not gainfully employed, it’s been quite a good summer so far. Just prior to my surprise layoff I went to see Evil Dead: The Musical. It was actually the second time I’d seen it (the first of which was during it’s original run several years ago), but it was much better this time around for a number of reasons. I actually watched the movies prior to seeing it this time, so some of the jokes made a lot more sense. My girlfriend and I sat front row center for the performance, right in the middle of the blood zone, and we got soaked in [fake] blood. It made for quite the interesting subway right home. I got more than my usual number of strange looks for laughing to myself. One other striking difference is that my ex-girlfriend broke up with me right after the show the first time I saw it. So in keeping with the spirit of the movies let me just say this to her, baby, you got real ugly.
I also went to see Clinic play at Lee’s Palace a couple nights ago. It was quite a significant show as neither nor my girlfriend had seen them before and back when we used to work together back in high school (which is how we first met), she used to send me music online, and Clinic was one of the bands she first introduced me to.
My hand is healing up quite nicely, despite not going to the hospital for stitches. A little over two weeks ago (also just before being laid off) I tore two of my fingers open in multiple places on the now broken door handle of the emergency exit in my apartment. Fortunately I was not using it because of an emergency, although it didn’t end up too far from being one.
