A Month Of Tricks And Treats

Posted October 31st, 2007 by Colin

Although not technically a holiday anymore, Hallowe’en is one of my favourite days of the year. I associate so many memories, and a general feeling of mystery and spirituality with this day.  It saddens me to see what appears to be a general decline in overall interest in the day.  It seems like there are fewer and fewer houses in my neighborhood decorated for All Hollows’ Eve each year, and this downturn extends to kids trick-or-treating as well.  How children could lose interest in free candy is an idea beyond comprehension.  One can only hope that this is just a slump, and not the beginning of Halloween’s demise.

Today concludes a month filled with bureaucracy and red tape in the wake of the vicious beating of my beloved Granturismo 200.  After everything was said and done, including several calls to the police, to my insurance agent, the dealership’s service/repair department, and the claims adjuster, and several weeks, they finally decided to write it off.  The only thing left to do now is sign the remains of my beloved scooter over to the insurance company. The final estimated cost to repair all the damage done was approximately $4700. The criminal (or criminals) get off scot-free, and I’m left with a cheque (less the estimated depreciation and a $500 deductible) instead of my means of transportation almost a month later.

I’m just happy that it’s basically finished. Now for a spooky night of fun, which will be largely comprised of nostalgic Halloween cartoons (Charlie Brown with possible appearances by the Great Pumpkin, Garfield and some ghost pirates, and lots of trick-or-treating), and the Dark Side Of Oz (which, for anyone who’s been living in a cave, is The Wizard Of Oz synched up with Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon instead of the movie’s soundtrack). Happy Hallowe’en everyone.
